Sydney in the noughties was a vibrant time for art making. Redfern was an epicentre of production from MOP Gallery to Sarah Cottier, Imperial Slacks to Wren. Artbank was a good supporter in these days of the innovative practices coming out of these underground spaces.
'This Time,' curated by George Adams founding Director of MOP Projects Sydney, brings together a number of artists who were active during This Time with major pieces from artists such as Mitch Cairns, Elvis Richardson, Julie Fragar and Ron Adams. Although a number of these artists have gone on to forge stellar careers individually, the exhibition evokes the sense of community and criticality that characterised the ARI scene at this time. In the post-grunge, pre-GFC, war on terror era, the concerns of Australian art multiplied and set the tone for the next decades to come.
