This exhibition draws its inspiration from the cherished children’s book "Are We There Yet?" by renowned Australian author Alison Lester. Blending travelogue and picture book elements, it chronicles the author's real-life journey across Australia with her family, showcasing the country's vast landscapes, Indigenous cultures, cultural landmarks, and wildlife.
Similarly, Artbank’s Are We There Yet? delves into themes of curiosity, discovery, and familial bonds while exploring the complex cultural and environmental impacts of motorways and cars on the landscape. Challenging conventional notions of progress and questioning ideas of arrival in both the physical and metaphorical sense, Are We There Yet? exists in a space caught between places—in transit—where the journey becomes the destination.
