Represented Artists

Artwork by Christian Thompson

Artbank shares artworks that represent a high standard of artistic achievement in Australian contemporary art with the public. We collect across a wide range of media including painting, photography, works on paper, sculpture, textile, glass, ceramics and video. Through acquisition, Artbank supports new art and ideas that capture our times.

Artbank has supported the contemporary art sector in Australia for 40 years through the purchase of work by Australian artists from galleries, dealers and art centres in all states and territories.

Artbank acquires work by emerging, mid-career and established artists. We acquire from the primary market, securing the greatest return for the artist. We also recognise the important role commercial galleries and dealers play in the development, support and promotion of Australian contemporary artists. Artbank acquires represented artists through their appointed agents, providing financial support to the wider Australian art sector.

Each year, Artbank visit exhibitions across the country to identify artists whose work represents a high standard of artistic achievement and meets our acquisition criteria. We aim to build a collection that represents the rich diversity of Australian society and artistic practice, and consider both building on the strengths of our collection and addressing identified gaps when purchasing. Commercial galleries are encouraged to keep us up-to-date on upcoming exhibitions. We may also approach an artist’s appointed agent to discuss available works and upcoming projects.
