Artbank Staff Profile: Carey Corbett

Name: Carey Corbett

Job Title: Art Consultant

What year did you join the Artbank team: 2020

Describe your role and what you enjoy about working for Artbank:

I am the most recent addition to the Artbank team, having just started this year. I’m thrilled to now be a part of an organisation whose ethos I have long admired – that being the support of Australian artists through the acquisition of artwork and the promotion of art to the wider community.

My position as an art consultant is one that I am well versed in. My background is in commercial art consultancy, interior design and arts administration so my personal skill base weaves a solid framework for this role. I enjoy working with clients to help them discover artwork that suits their requirements – for their homes, offices or work environments, ideally cultivating a broader interest and appreciation for art in the everyday.

Short explanation of your artwork selection:

Today, in this time of working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic I am appreciating the simple things, reflecting on what it is to be home, taking time to make art and be creative myself. This work by Sally Smart feels a bit like this for me – familiar – rediscovering her artwork that I had a particular affinity for at the time (2003). I appreciate the construction of the work, the ideology behind it, and the aesthetic. The fragmented character is powerful and imbued with feminist and social comment. Femmage (Honey) is a definite favourite.
