Conflict of Interest - Curated by artists Sidney McMahon and Xanthe Dobbie

To celebrate World Pride 2023 - Artbank invited artists Sydney McMahon and Xanthe Dobbie to curate the Artbank Window.

Conflict of Interest - Curated by artists Sidney McMahon and Xanthe Dobbie

Conflict of Interest celebrates complex and diverse expressions of queerness through a selection of works from the Artbank collection, chosen by artists Sidney McMahon and Xanthe Dobbie. Each work acts as a symbolic visual love letter between the artists.

Through their curatorial choices, Sidney and Xanthe explore the enmeshment of queerness and art, challenging traditional notions of representation and authority. Using colour as a starting point, they have selected works that are deeply rooted in their exploration of the body, technology, and intimacy.

The exhibition offers a unique perspective, showcasing varied works that speak to the perpetual becoming of queer identity and experience. Sidney and Xanthe have been intimately involved with each other for three years and this exhibition marks their first collaboration in a public setting.

This exhibition was developed on Gadigal and Wurundjeri Country. The artists pay respect to the Elders past and present and recognise that on this land and any land on this continent, Sovereignty was never ceded.
